Lost Mysql root password

Reset method 1

  • stop mysql
  • start mysql on command line with mysqld --skip-grant-tables
  • go into mysql console
  • type FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
  • SET PASSWORD FOR root@'localhost' = PASSWORD;

Reset method 2

  • create file containing the following:
    UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('MyNewPass') WHERE User='root';
    FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
  • start mysql with mysqld_safe --init-file=/path/to/file &
  • it should be reset!
